The Visionary Business & Life Edit podcast with Kris Plachy

Editing and evaluating your life is super powerful. It reinforces a firm foundation when you take time out to evaluate where you’ve been and then decide if that is where you truly want to be and the pursuit you wish to continue. After all, what good is it to continue to build on top of something that isn’t what you really want and/or isn’t serving you well?

To this end, years ago I began doing the visionary business & life edit for myself. It is an intense yet refreshing and invigorating deep dive into where I’ve been and where I’m going. As the edit unfolds, it probes into those things that are being avoided or not dealt with, and even into those things that aren’t being as savored and celebrated as they should. I invite you to join me both through this podcast and, potentially, in person for your business & life edit.

“The win is in the way… How I achieve what I want is actually the win. It’s not what I want, because that target moves.” – Kris Plachy

Welcome. Hey, let's do a business and life edit. Here we go.

Welcome to the podcast. I'm Kris Plachy. I'm so glad that you've decided to tune in to Leadership Is Feminine today. Thank you. Thank you. And if you are a longtime listener, I'm so glad you're here. And if you're brand new, I'm so glad you're here. We have a lot of fun here.

Hey, if you've been a listener for a while and you haven't written a review, Would you do one today? Like it'll take you like four seconds, like two to four, maybe five sentences. So fast. Why do you keep tuning in? Why do you listen every week? I would just love it, love it, love it if you would like just drop a quick review. It does help make a difference that other people find this podcast. And I think you know I do my best here to give you something really useful that you can use every week in your beautiful life.

Which brings me to the visionary business and life edit. So, this comes out of a few things. First of all, I'm actually going to be creating an edit for you to do. It's a edit and an audit for your business and your life, and it's born out of a lot. But, so, when I even first started wanting to do retreats in Hawaii, I created this concept that at the end of the year I created it for myself that every year we shouldn't just skip what we've done and then plan for the next one. But we should also evaluate where we are and decide if we're where we wanna be before we just start building on top of that and creating a future.

And so my retreats every year in Hawaii have been really deep, meaningful, moving edits for women to evaluate those parts of their lives that maybe they're tuning out of, or they are not wanting to talk about, or that they savor and they don't give themselves enough time to savor. And that's why inviting you to come and join me in Hawaii will always be my ultimate in self-love and self investment, because I know what can happen for you when you come and would join me there. And we just did it again a couple weeks ago and it was super powerful.

So I still have a few available open beach chairs for the retreat in Hawaii for September. It'll be held September 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th. And it's in the north shore of Oahu. So you fly into Honolulu. If you wanna take a look at airfare and all those things, I would really love for you to do that. And just go to KrisPlachy.com/hawaii to learn everything you need to learn and register.

The reason I'm putting all that information right here is that I don't normally do my retreats - I haven't for many years - with women who are not current clients, and I've decided to change that after my last retreat. We had some amazing women come. We had an incredible experience and I wanna extend this invitation to all of you who have had an interest but haven't joined me yet. So please take a moment and go to the website and see if it's something you wanna do.

So that's like a deep, deep, deep edit that you can do. The reason I love what we do in Hawaii is it pulls you out of your environment and you really go all in on yourself. And it's such a powerful gift to give you.

The other reason I wanted to talk about the edit is that we are in the process and just about to unveil our new signature program for women who want to enhance and improve and upgrade how they lead. And as a part of that, we are extending an invitation to complete an edit for yourself. And upon completion of that edit, we are gonna review your results. And if you end up registering for our new program - which you will find all out about at an unveiling, what I'll tell you about that here shortly - we're going to give you a month of free coaching with myself and my team of experts on your edit, on the areas of your business and your life that you would like support on.

I'm super duper excited about this. Mechanisms that we're using to help you are amazing. It'll work right with your schedule, whether you're traveling or you're home over the summer, and that way we can do some of this deep dive work. So that as you approach and get into the final months of the year, you're really gonna be positioned well. So in order to do this edit though, you have to complete it. And in order to complete it, you have to know why it's important, and that's what I wanna talk to you about next.

I believe that in order to bloom and grow a beautiful life and a beautiful business, you have to be as scrutinizing about the parts you no longer want, or that no longer serve, as you are about the parts you want to pull in and develop. Several years ago, actually, almost 10 years ago, I bought a book called Necessary Endings, and then I just rediscovered that book not long ago. I think I've mentioned it on a previous podcast. And I was reminded of the importance of endings and that they are an essential part of beginnings.

And the way that I think about necessary endings are that they are the old yeses that you have fulfilled, that you would no longer say yes to. So there are yeses that you are currently fulfilling. A lot of my- last week I was talking to some clients who were very overwhelmed, and that's understandable because what happens is we tend to say yes entirely too often as entrepreneurs, we are very hopeful. We see potential in everyone and in everything. That's part of an asset of being an entrepreneur.

But then what happens is we over yes, and then we get overwhelmed. And then now we've said yes to so many parts of our lives and parts of our businesses that we don't know how to separate and how to let go.

So I believe at least once a year, we all need to evaluate what we've said yes to. What we've said yes to when it comes to our bodies, our diet, our personal relationships, our home, our clothes, our furniture, our silverware. Listen to me. Everything. Everything that you're looking at in your life, just look at your desk, look at the car that you're in. Look at what you're using right now while you're listening to this podcast, the phone that you have, the house that you're listening to, that you're sitting in, the street that you're walking on, if you're walking, these were yeses. You said yes, and now that you have it, okay?

Everything in your life was a yes was because of a yes somewhere down the line. Even the stuff you don't really want in your life right now was because of a yes somewhere. And of course, there's so much power in that ownership, okay? It's always- if you can always come back to center and back to what you own, it changes your life.

And just because you've said yes before does not mean you have to say yes again. Just let that sit. I said when I was in Hawaii with my clients, I said to them, "I have this secret wish that somebody would come and take everything out of my closet except for my Tiffany handbag. That I really don't think I would miss any of it." And that was so powerful. Like, wow, I probably am ready to say no to almost everything in my closet.

So being the year of massive change that I've referenced many times on this podcast, we sold our house last August. We moved into a rental. It was nice, but not our house. And then we moved into our house now that we bought and built just as we wanted it. And every day my husband and I yell, I love our house. We're so happy in this house. And then two weeks ago, my twins graduated from high school. They're leaving. I had a dream last night. Those of you who are dream people, you'll get this. I had a, actually it wasn't even last night, it was this morning. So it's still with me. You know, you have dreams and they like, they don't go away.

So I had this dream last night that I went to pick up my kids at preschool, and they were little, they were like four and they weren't there. And I was like, "Where are my kids?"

And the preschool teachers were like, "Oh, they took the bus home from school."

And I'm like, "No, they didn't. They're not home." And it was like dark at night. It was like eight o'clock. Nobody knew where my kids were. And then I woke up and I was like, "Okay, woo. You're working through it, mama."

Right? Like, you feel that that's, that is so obvious. Me working through our kids are leaving, where are they gonna be? I won't know. Because they're adults.

What a year of change. I got rid of every piece of furniture that we owned except for my kids' beds, cuz they wanted them. I did get brand new silverware. I got brand new plates. I got brand new utensils. Did you know you could throw out that entire utensil drawer that you have that I know that you hate? And you could buy all new utensils for like $52. Doing an edit is a game changer.

But the big game change was when I looked at my business and I really, really thought about what am I doing? I've been climbing and climbing and climbing, and climbing for years. And I love what I do. I love who I work with. I think I'm the luckiest person on the planet. The people that I get to talk to every day, I don't understand how this is a living, and I- listen, I am not questioning it. I'm just grateful and I wanna do more of it. But I can't do more in the way that I was doing what I was doing because it ends up depleting the source that is providing and delivering the value, which is me.

And so I have my own coach and she and I have done a lot of this talking, and we've talked a lot about, what would be the perfect business for you at this point in my life? And I go back to a podcast that I did a long time ago. Cuz we know that people say all the time, right? Like, what are the- here are the seven ways to win, here are the 12 ways to win at life, here are the 16 ways to win at business. Here's the way to win. Right? All that.

And I realized that the win is in the way. Meaning, how I achieve what I want is actually the win. It's not what I want because that target moves, right? Oh, I hit seven figures. Yeah, right. Not now. I know I'm not gonna do that the way I did before. Because you know what's true? That way is exhausting and not good for me. I wanna focus on the way. Because I know when I lean into that and I lean into the people who are all in and wanna do this incredible work with me, oh, it's brilliant for both of us.

So I have spent the last six months, seven months, in deep movement, in my depth of who I am, wondering, questioning, evaluating, asking, testing, failing, disappointing people. I know all of that's true. Because it's important to me to do this edit, to be honest. I mean, I went as far as sitting in Hawaii once thinking, "I don't wanna do this anymore. Do I really wanna do this? Is this on my list of yes again?"

And I wasn't sure for about three months. I wasn't sure. And listen, it was terrifying to wonder if something you've been so passionate about isn't a yes anymore. But do you know what's true? It wasn't until I let myself evaluate my life without it that I realized how much I want it.

If there are parts of your life that are holy grail, can't talk about, can't edit those out, then you're not living honestly with yourself. And so this business and life edit is designed to help you ask yourself the questions I know you're not asking you.

Now, the best news is when you complete that edit, you give us so much help to help you as a coaching team. So I wonder for you, what goes through your brain when you think about editing your life and your business? Looking at it all, taking that red pen and literally like putting a line through something. It's a no for me, it's a no for me. I'm not gonna do that anymore. Because you know that every decision you make doesn't happen in a vacuum. You know that every ending that you initiate doesn't happen in a vacuum.

So then what do you do when someone else isn't happy with your edit? So at the lesson that I'm gonna teach in the last week of June, if you just go to thevisionary.ceo/edit, you can access the edit and you can also register to join my unveiling and the lesson. Cuz I'm going to teach you more about my edit, and what I've evaluated, and what we're gonna invite you to do, and something you can do once a quarter, you can do twice a year, and you can do it once a year.

But living an examined life, living as a leader who examines her business, leads you in the direction of joy and your dreams. Even if there are hard goodbyes, even if there are hard endings, it does break my heart to watch people believe in their own limitations. Not because they're incapable, but because they're too afraid to see what's on the other side. They have fear of what might happen if they lived beyond a limitation they've believed in for so long. What's on the other side of that for you? What's on the other side of the yeses that you've made before that you wouldn't say yes to? Again, what is on the other side?

And let's be honest about it. Let's be honest about whatever you're saying. I wrote an article today that I've been posting - if you haven't gone on to the Moxy Sage yet, I'd encourage you to go to thevisionary.ceo/moxy. But I published my weekly blog there, my article, and today I was writing about why we don't do things. And I wrote, doubt is a liar and "practical" eats dreams for fuel.

What if scenarios are doubts and practicals spell steering you away from your joy. You have so much that you've already accomplished and there is so much more inside of you. But the edit is a way forward to be honest with yourself, to up your game, to upgrade your life and your business to get closer to the dream that you're working on, or to maybe even imagine a bigger one. What do you think?

I'd love for you to join me in my live lesson. Go to thevisionary.ceo/edit. You can register and then you'll get an access to the edit itself and you can complete that. And as I mentioned, if you decide to go forward with us in our new signature program that we're gonna announce at that unveiling, you're gonna get a month of free coaching with us and we're gonna use that edit to help you resolve some of the triage moments, triage issues that you're facing right now. Thank you for tuning in. I'll see you soon.

Hey, do you like this podcast? I have good news for you. I've started a subscription service over at substack. It's called the Moxy Sage, and what we're gonna do over there is an article a week. But if you become a paid subscriber, I'm gonna be sending you even more, more thoughts and a private podcast. And that private podcast is designed to be like your personal retreat, something that you can take on a walk or a long drive.

Or even in the morning with your cup of coffee or tea, and think about something kind of provocative or different, to just challenge yourself to express more about who you are into your own life. So I'd love for you to join me, so head on over to thevisionary.ceo/moxy. You can be a free subscriber and if you want the podcast and the extra bits, I really would invite you to become a paid subscriber. I'm gonna be talking to friends. I'm gonna be having all sorts of interesting conversations over there, and I am so super duper excited.

I hope you'll join me.
