Kris Plachy: Hey, I'm Kris Plachy, host of the Lead Your Team podcast. Running a million dollar business is not easy, and whether you are just getting started with building your team or you've been at this for a while, I'm going to bring you honest, specific and clear practices you can use. Right now today to improve how well you lead your team.

Let's go ahead and get started.

Hello, welcome to the podcast. Thank you for listening today. I'm so glad that you're here. I've been having so much fun on Instagram. For those of you who are on there, cuz I know there's a lot of newer listeners, my amazing clients, uh, keep sharing lessons that they're learning from the podcasts. And so I just, it's so fun to know that there's new people out there.

So, hi, if you've been bitch listening, hi. I'm so glad that you're here. Are you sick of my voice yet? Um, okay. I have a few announcements. So, first of all, I decided to do a retreat in Hawaii after much consternation. I know, uh, it's still, we're still in the middle of a pandemic, and I think I was pretty o I was pretty open with you all earlier in the year about my feelings about it.

I have a lot of pandemic Ida fear terror in some ways. But I really just decided, and I did my research and I got very thoughtful about the facts and got out of my story and I would like to go and my daughter is doing online school right now, and so she can go with me and. My good friend, uh, Camille, Dr.

Camille Brard Weiss, who also works with me and her daughter who plays soccer with my daughter. We're gonna all go together and have a lovely 10 day relaxing by the beach time. And so I thought, well, if I'm gonna be there, why not just do what I call Hawaii gathering? I only invited my clients, so wink, wink.

Another great reason to. Join the How to c e O program because you find out about these things and we sold it out within like a week, you guys. So I'm super excited. Uh, can't wait to tell you all about it and share it with you. I know it's gonna be amazing and glorious and healing, which is what I think we all need more and more and more of.

Whatever heals your spirit, whoever you are, whatever that is, find a way. To make it happen. We have been white knuckling for almost 12 months, and, uh, you can't have gone through this without being affected by it. No matter what your perspective is, heal, find ways to heal. The second thing I would like to invite you to and tell you about is the empathic c e o virtual intensive that I'm doing, and we changed it up a little as.

I was working through the content and then working with Miriam who helps me with all of our digital work. We really thought about it and decided this makes more sense to do as a three day mini intensive instead of a full three hour one day deal. So we're going to be offering the empathic C E O Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, the 23rd, 24th, and 25th of February for one hour.

Each day, four o'clock actually Pacific, seven o'clock Eastern, everything will be recorded. So if you can't come and you still want the content, please don't let that be a reason not to go through this work. I am so incredibly excited to bring it to you. You will also get a digital workbook as, um, um, a participant in this program, and the goal here is really to help you understand that you are not too sensitive.

To be a good leader. You don't have to be suppressing your own emotions or wrangling with them all the time, like I think you do when you tend to be more on the empathic side of the scale. And I know that the systems and the processes and the practices I teach give you clarity and they also give you peace.

So that you can do the work you need to do in the world. Have the conversations you need to have as a leader and not feel so tormented inside. So if that's you, I really want you to come. It's gonna be really reasonable. It's $497. It's three days. We're gonna have a special kind of offer to you that we're gonna make during the, the course, which I think you will find really cool.

More on that later, and we'll be sharing information. So just go to the empathic c E O. Dot com. That's the empathic ceo.com to learn everything you need to learn about it. You can register, you can get more details. I made you a quick video so you can hear more about it. So again, the empathic ceo.com Tell a friend.

I'm super excited about how this work might actually really change so much for all of you. Okay, so today we're talking about the three most important, most powerful, most essential mostest, right? What, whatever word you wanna insert here. Leadership competencies that leaders need to have. What are the most important leadership competencies?

Now I. You know, I was an ops leader and then I went in and got into coaching inside a company. And so I, I was in then put into the HR learning community and that's when I really developed more acumen around leadership development and competencies, et cetera. And. Competencies are really those benchmark skills that businesses say, these are the core competencies that people need in particular roles.

These are the core competencies that managers need, that leaders need. So a core competency is kind of like price of entry. You can't function. Without it. And so that's how I want you to think about this. And I should say, you can't function well. You can't function at peak, you can't deliver. And when I look at what I teach and what I know is true for the people that thrive through the model and models and practices that I use, these are the three core competencies and I wanna give credit.

Where credit is due, because I was on a walk, I, every time I'm on a walk, I have these thoughts. And John Maxwell showed up in my Instagram feed. I don't follow him, which I thought was interesting. But he popped in and he, and it was this really short video, and I really loved it. I sent it to several people, but he was talking about the fact that he, he said, close comes first.

And he said, when I'm talking to leaders, close comes first. I don't want fans, I want friends. And so that got me thinking. There's two parallel tracks here, right? The first one is, as a leader, I don't want people to idolize me or, or be worshiping or inspire, you know, have that kind of relationship with me, be impressed with me.

I want people to feel close to me. And I also invite you to think about this in how you think about your business. I know a lot of people who are listening to this podcast, you know, do a lot of social, uh, marketing and selling. And your job through that process is to build a relationship with your client, right?

Your potential client, your potential market. And so what I know about you is that that ability you have to create those relationships. Can stretch into how you lead and manage a team, but we have to wear it differently because there has to be a level of authenticity to it. So I wanna extend my credit to him because this is with his direct quote.

He says, until I can make a connection with you, and until you can know that my connection is sincere, I will impress you, but I won't impact you. I will impress you, but I won't impact you. We impact people close up. We impress people far away. So I loved that because for me, it echoes my sentiment for how I feel with my team.

I like to know the people who work for me and with me. I build relationships with people. It's part of what I've always done. So I do understand that's, that's like a natural tendency of mine, but I also see where the gaps are for my clients, where they just, there's this gap. It's this, it's a hole in the relationship that needs repairing.

So how do we repair it? We have to develop these three competencies and the three core competencies are seeing, hearing, and feeling. And what we know about the human species is that the biggest fear that we have is being ostracized from the tribe and being able to quote, unquote, fit in so that we are not alienated and expelled.

Because you know, in our. Old, old, old times when we were cave people and frankly even village people, right? Like in the, you know, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th century, you had to have a tribe. If you were expelled from your circle, you died. You didn't have food, you didn't have fire. And so that's still very ingrained in who we are.

And so now though, most of us do not live around a fire pit and have to go hunt for our food. Now we have other dynamics in our relationships. And even though there's been a tremendous amount of evolution for us as a species, we still have these inherent needs. But what we're having now, what we're struggling with now is.

This, the, is that, and you can see this because of the increase in depression, the increase in, um, anxiety, right? We've really linked, now we know that depression and anxiety and, and addiction are symptoms of a lack of connection. And so when we're at work with so much of our lives is spent at work, and then if we work for someone who doesn't see us, Who doesn't hear us and who doesn't feel us.

It is empty. And then we're asking these people to engage with us to work hard. It doesn't work that way. So I believe for you as a leader, you have to ask yourself, am I willing to do the work of seeing people so they feel seen? Am I willing to do the work to hear people? So they feel heard and am I willing to do the feeling work so that people feel, felt, understood, known, validated as leaders.

This is a transition. Some people have been this way forever, and that's why you see some leaders be so effective. You can be an successful leader and generate a ton of revenue and probably not do this over time, but you will not build a healthy organization. And that's what you have to ask yourself is what do you wanna do?

And, and I think that the reverse is true. So the superpower skills, these competencies of seeing, hearing, and feeling, it also is the opposite. Are you willing to be seen? Are you willing to be heard, to say what needs to be said? And are you willing to be felt to be, to allow yourself the transparency of emotion?

Without perceiving yourself or believing others will perceive you as weak. That's why to me, the empathic c e o is the game-changing solution insight. I think once you can marry your willingness to see and be seen, hear and be heard, feel and be felt. You will change how you lead and you will change the relationship you have with yourself as a woman who re leads and manages and develops people in her company.

And you will change the relationship that people have with you, which means you will change the results that you get. I believe that with every ounce of my soul, and I know that's why you're struggling if you are, because there's a gap in one of those competencies. That's just the truth we have to tell.

So there's gonna be more that I'm gonna, um, unpack on this. I want you to know that, but I want you to think about it. And of course, I always wanna know what you think. So email [email protected]. Write a review if you feel so inclined. But please tell me what you think about these three powerful.

Core competencies. Thank you for tuning in. Go to the empathic c e o sign up so you can learn more about our course that's coming up in just a few weeks. Have a wonderful day.
